Damask Divas June Hop Later Sk8r and Tommy

Welcome to the Damask Divas June Blog Hop.   If you came here from Sharon’s blog, you are in the right place.  You can always start over or from the beginning at the Damask Divas site. This month I made a Fathers’ Day card using Tommy and a scrapbook page featuring my beautiful grand-daughter Annabelle.

I made a double-pocket card for my father-in-law since we always tuck some money in a card for him.  There are a lot of tutorials on the Internet on how to make the pocket cards.  I made a tag with the same paper pack to tuck in the front pocket and the $ will go in the back pocket.  The Tommy papers are so appropriate since he was in the Coast Guard.  I cut the words “smooth sailing” off the strip from one piece of paper.  A simple card but bright and cheery.  It is a standard A2 card at 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches.

This is my favorite photo of Annabelle and I wrote that on my journaling card with the year the photo was taken so I could remember.  I cut 1 1/4″ circles on the Cricut and used the Urban Alphabet stamp set to stamp the letters GIRL POWER under the photo.  I used the pink zipper ribbon to pull out the pink in the shoes and shirt and also used the Cotton Candy ink pad to stamp the letters.

Here is a card I made for my husband’s friend who is retiring.  He is retired military so I used a red, white, blue and gold theme.  It is on an 8.5 x 11 white piece of card stock folded in half so the pinwheels would fit nicely.

I hope this inspires you to make some pinwheels of your own.  The stamp set coordinates with the Artiste Cricut Cartridge exclusive to Close to my Heart and the cuts include the  middle hole in the pinwheel, or you can just stamp and cut around the images and put holes in the middles.

Faux Leather Handmade Journal

I made this journal for my brother to commemorate his graduation from college with a Masters in Humanities.  Now that he has received his gift, I can share.

Faux Leather Journal

Faux Leather Journal

I made the faux leather using Close to my Heart Kraft paper, CTMH inks and my Cinch book binding machine.  The journal pages are from http://www.printablepaper.net.  He offers all kinds of free templates and pages to download.  It is a great site.  I printed the journal pages double sided and punched with the Cinch.

To make the faux leather, I wet two 12×12 pieces of Kraft paper with a spray bottle of water.  I crumpled and un-crumpled the wet paper until I liked the texture.  I then ironed the papers smooth.  I took three colors of CTMH ink – Cocoa, Brown Bag and Desert Sand and wiped them over the textured paper.  Brown Bag is no longer available, but Saddle would be an equivalent color.  I started with the darkest (Cocoa), then medium (Brown Bag) then the lightest (Desert Sand) and layered them on until I liked the look.  I then wet the papers again to let the ink spread a bit.  I ironed the papers again, putting them between parchment paper to iron so ink didn’t get on the board or iron.  Once it was dry, I coated the papers with Microglaze (a wax product you can purchase in craft stores online) to give it more of a leather feel and to seal the ink.  I then punched the faux leather paper and glued it to chipboard covers.   I put some Colonial White papers on the inside covers and used the Desert Sand ink to give it some highlights like old paper.  I bound the journal pages and the covers together using a spiral binding.  I glued wooden beads on the tips of spiral to keep them from slipping out of the end holes instead of just bending the ends.  If you don’t have a Cinch or similar book binding tool, then you can punch holes and thread cords or rings through the covers and pages.

I really like the way this turned out and my brother loved it.  Here are some additional photos:

I printed the journal pages double sided by putting the second side back through the printer ensuring the word Journal would be in the right place.  For my printer, I placed print side up, top into the printer first and it worked great.  Just try it on a sample until it is correct before printing the whole batch, then make a note of what worked.

I really like this.  The journal is 8″ by 8″ so I had some scraps left from the 12 by 12 papers.  My husband liked the look, so I made him a smaller 3″ by 5″ index card note book with some of the scrap for him to write down website addresses and info.

Mothers Day Cards using CTMH Dream Pop paper

Cydney Fowler Creations

I know why they call this paper pack Dream Pop!  The colors really pop.  Get yours in May for just $10 with a $35 purchase.  I made my mother and mother-in-law cards using the clear card bases from CTMH.  You have to make sure to put something inside to cover any adhesive so I cut identical 4″ squares for the front, back and insides.  I used the Artiste Cricut Cartridge (a CTMH exclusive) to cut the #1 Mom and the I Love You (I cut off the I since it was from my husband too).  #1 Mom is cut at 3.5″ and the I Love You is at 1.5″.  I had to add small pieces of paper to write on since the Dream Pop solids have a raised embossed pattern on them.  That is the pattern that you see on the green paper and the orange paper. My Creations Paper Pouch by CTMH for Memorial Packet

We recently had a celebration of life for my husband’s Great Aunt and Great Uncle.  I made some packets to hold a memorial pamphlet and keepsake using the CTMH My Creations Paper Pouch (large size).

Stamped with Quick-Card Butterfly

Stamped with Quick-Card Butterfly

I added a pressed flower sticker to each and stamped their first initials.  Jeanne and Winston were married 73 years and were very happy together.  They passed within two months of each other.  I made the memorial pamphlet using a greeting card program to make a quarter fold card and added an old photo and a newer one inside with some quotes and clip art.

The large paper pouch is just the right size for the pamphlet.  The paper stamped very nicely.  The butterfly stamp has a sentiment included that says “Love as delicate as a butterfly’s wings as strong as the circle of life.”  It was so appropriate.  I used the Lagoon stamp pad for the aqua color.  My sister-in-law purchased the little bag of pewter mementos online.

We had a nice celebration of their lives.  They both were in there 90’s and had full lives.  I was happy to help with making these mementos for the family who gathered. I hope that you, my readers, don’t have a loss in your family, but if you do I hope this idea is of use to you.
